THE BOARD

Lyrics written and owned by Chantele Delaine

I have somehow stepped into a game

Where the rules around me always change

I am only a lowly pawn on the board

Kings and Queens get shuffled 'round

One by one those knights go down

No chivalry for those who only wanna score

Who will have my back

And who will protect me from attack

So obtuse are their rules I don't understand

Who will hide me and guide me

Who will take my hand

From where I stand

In this square of quicksand

Out in no man's land

Will I move diagonal lines

Can't go back and I'm running out of time

I've got to think myself out of this box surrounding me

Don't have privilege of en passant

Got to finish to get to where I want

But all I see are moves laterally

Who will have my back

And who will protect me from attack

So obtuse are their rules I don't understand

Who will hide me and guide me

Who will take my hand

From where I stand

In this square of quicksand

Out in no man's land

I'm rewriting the manual

I'm bustin' out to a new set of moves

No longer do I play

Those games of yesterday

Hey...

I have somehow stepped into a game

Where the variables always change

But which ones are controllable remain to be seen
